Health, Safety & Environment
Protecting our people, our communities and the environment is at the centre of how we plan, build and run the Mkuju River Project.
Who we are
Mantra Tanzania Limited is a subsidiary of Uranium One Group and its parent shareholder, the State Atomic Energy Corporation of Russia (ROSATOM). The company owns the Mkuju River Uranium Project (MRP). MRP is located in Southern Tanzania in the Namtumbo District of the Ruvuma Region. It is approximately 180 km North-East of Songea town and 54 km from the nearest human settlement which is Likuyu Sekamaganga village in Likuyu ward. The prospect area is located in the southern part of the former Selous Game Reserve which is now part of Nyerere National Park.

Health, safety and environmental care in a sensitive setting
Because the Mkuju River Project sits within a protected wilderness and close to the communities of the Ruvuma Region, health, safety and environmental responsibility guide every stage of our work. Mantra Tanzania is committed to protecting the wellbeing of its employees and neighbouring communities, to operating safely, and to caring for the land, water and biodiversity of the surrounding area.
What HSE means at Mantra Tanzania
Health, Safety and Environment bring together the three commitments that shape how we run the project — from the site to the communities beyond it.
Health
We work to safeguard the wellbeing of our employees, contractors and neighbouring communities as the project develops.
Safety
We aim to ensure that everyone who comes to work on the project is able to carry out their tasks safely and return home safely.
Environment
Operating beside a protected national park, we are committed to caring for the surrounding land, water and biodiversity.
